If you're expecting a little one—first of all, congratulations! You're growing a tiny human, and that is nothing short of magical.

One of the most common questions I get as a maternity photographer in Sugar Land is: “When should I book my maternity photo session?” Let's break it down.

The Ideal Time for Maternity Photos

The sweet spot for maternity photography is typically between 28 and 34 weeks. By this time, your bump has that perfect round shape and you’re (hopefully!) still feeling comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the session.

If you're having twins or a high-risk pregnancy, I recommend scheduling closer to 26–30 weeks, just in case your little one(s) decide to make an early entrance.

Why Book Early?

My schedule—especially in spring and fall—tends to book out in advance with family photo shoots. Booking early ensures you get the golden hour time slot and location you love. Plus, you'll have time to plan your wardrobe, coordinate with your partner or kids, and relax knowing it’s all taken care of.

Location, Light & Seasons Matter

In Sugar Land and the surrounding Houston area, we’re lucky to have mild winters and beautiful spring/fall evenings (trust me- as a relocated Canadian I am especially grateful to live here in the winter!).

If you want wildflowers, cooler weather, or soft golden light, let’s chat about the best time of year based on your due date. Bluebonnets only stick around for a couple of weeks, but there are some spots around Sugar Land and Richmond were we can count on other flowers for much of the year if you want to include some in your maternity shoot.

Bundle It Up

If you’re considering newborn or milestone sessions too, ask me about bundle options—many families love the consistency and value of working together throughout baby’s first year.
