Morning Maternity Session at Cullinan Park with Ariel and Her Daughter

I recently had the sweetest morning maternity session at Cullinan Park in Sugar Land with Ariel and her almost-three-year-old daughter, Lilah. We met around 9 a.m.—a bit later than my usual sunrise sessions—but luckily, Cullinan Park is full of shady spots and soft filtered light, which worked beautifully for our photos.
If you’ve never been, Cullinan Park is one of my favorite locations for maternity photoshoots in Sugar Land. Just 10 minutes from downtown, it somehow feels like you’ve stepped deep into a forest—or even a jungle! The wild, untamed greenery makes it perfect for anyone who loves a natural, organic backdrop. It’s peaceful, quiet, and full of little surprises.
Ariel looked radiant in her flowy maternity dress with a very earth mother vibe, and we captured a mix of solo maternity portraits and sweet, candid mother-and-daughter moments. Lilah was all giggles and curiosity, and as a mom myself, I know how precious it is to freeze that stage of life before a new sibling arrives.
Cullinan also features a long, covered wooden boardwalk that stretches across the lake, offering beautiful vantage points for photos (and a nice break from the Texas sun!). While it’s stunning in the morning, it’s downright magical at sunset—I’ve done other sessions here at golden hour, and the reflections on the water are breathtaking.
This morning, though, we got a little extra excitement—an alligator made a surprise appearance, clearly on the hunt for breakfast! As a Canadian-turned-Texan, I’ll admit that was a little too close for comfort, but it definitely made the morning memorable.
We wrapped things up on a lighter note with Lilah chasing one of the local geese—because honestly, who doesn’t love a good bird chase to end a photoshoot?
I loved how this session came together: the combination of wild nature, genuine connection, and that soft morning glow made for a gorgeous, relaxed gallery that feels both intimate and timeless.

The mix of trails, trees, water, and wildlife gives you tons of variety in just one location—and you never know what little adventures might happen along the way!
