Maternity Session with Ying at Pecan Park, New Territory

I had such a wonderful time photographing Ying for her maternity session at Pecan Park in New Territory, just five minutes from my home here in Sugar Land. It’s one of my favorite local spots — not just for photography, but for everyday life. My son and I often stop by to play on our way home from school, and I’ve come to know every path, tree, and bridge by heart.

There are actually two parts to this location: Walker Station Park (or as my family calls it, “Ninja Park”), and Pecan Park proper. Ninja Park is packed with the coolest climbing structures and ninja-style playground equipment — a total hit with the local kids, especially the brave ones ages 7 and up since some of the equipment gets pretty high (I'll be honest, it took my son about three months to finally muster up the courage to climb the highest structure and go down the attached pole. Which: fair. I don't think I would do it either!).

Just across the way, Pecan Park itself is a photographer’s dream. There’s a quiet pond surrounded by pecan trees, an outdoor pavilion with picnic tables, a white gazebo, charming wooden bridges, and even a playground for the younger kids. Add in the ducks, turtles, and plenty of shade from the pecan trees, and it’s the perfect mix of serene and family-friendly. Bonus tip: bring a bag — you can often find pecans on the ground and take a few home for snacking!

Ying looked absolutely stunning in her off-the-shoulder coral maternity gown, which beautifully complemented her dark, flowing hair and the soft greens of the park. The color popped against the natural backdrop and gave her photos such a warm, summery glow.

We also did a few family photos during the session, though I’m keeping those private since Ying prefers not to share photos of her children online. Still, we captured some incredibly sweet moments between her and her husband, along with several gorgeous solo portraits that truly celebrated this special chapter in her life.

One of the best parts about photographing at Pecan Park is how much variety you can get without ever walking far. In just a few steps, we were able to move from the pond to the bridges to the tree-lined paths, each offering a completely different look and feel. The entire gallery feels cohesive yet dynamic — full of color, texture, and emotion.

I’ve already got Ying’s due date circled in my calendar and can’t wait to meet her little one soon! We’re planning a newborn session once baby arrives, and we’ll be incorporating her older children for those classic, heart-melting family newborn portraits.
