I recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing Olivia, a bold and stylish high school senior, in historic downtown Richmond, TX. Her energy was electric, and she came ready to make a statement — and we delivered.

Starting Strong at Joseph’s Coffee

We kicked off her session at Joseph’s Coffee, one of my favorite downtown spots. Their charming patio and gorgeous brick wall provide the perfect backdrop for warm, textured portraits. With Olivia’s first look, we captured relaxed, effortless shots — the kind that feel like she could step off the page of a fashion magazine.

Café Charm & Cozy Vibes

From there, we walked a few steps down the street for some cute café photos. The café scene gave us that lifestyle editorial feel: a mix of candid moments, soft natural light, and genuine personality shining through. Olivia’s outgoing style was totally in her element, and we made great use of the quaint architecture and cozy café corners.

Twinkle Lights & Tree Magic

Next, we found a large, gorgeous tree strung with twinkle lights. This spot gave us a completely different backdrop — whimsical, dreamy, and soft. The lights created a magical ambiance, and Olivia’s expressions lit up. It was such a contrast to the structured brick and café settings, and added that unexpected sparkle to her gallery.

Dramatic, Editorial on the Railroad Tracks

Then came one of my favorite parts: walking just a block north to the railroad tracks for some dramatic editorial shots. Olivia was all in. We timed this part of the shoot for earlier light, when the sun cast bold, direct shadows — which she was so excited about. The tracks offered a strong, gritty aesthetic, and Olivia’s poses leaned into it hard. These are some of the most fashion-forward images in her gallery.

Richmond’s railroad depot has deep local history — the original was moved to Decker Heritage Park, preserving that historic feel of the line. absolutely Brazos! Community Magazine+1

Final Change: Freeman Town Park

We wrapped up at Freeman Town Park, right near downtown Richmond. richmondtx.gov+1 Olivia changed into a fresh outfit, and we used the park’s natural and architectural elements for her closing shots. The green space, the playground pavilion, and the open areas gave her the freedom to move and show a softer, more candid side — balancing out the boldness of the railroad track portraits.

Why This Route Worked So Well

If you've worked with me, you know that I'm obsessed with making your session customized and planning out every last location. I have a number of local locations in Richmond, Sugar Land, Katy and Houston that I regularly use for senior photos where I know how the light hits, where rush hour snags, and where the nearest change room is. Preparation is key, friends!

For this shoot I made sure to focus on:

  • Minimal travel: Everything was walkable. That kept the mood light and the energy high.

  • Varied backdrops: Brick, café, lights, metal tracks, and park — all in one session means her gallery feels rich and dynamic.

  • Lighting strategy: We thoughtfully planned where and when to shoot. The train-track shots were done when the sun was still strong for that dramatic contrast; later, we leaned into softer light at the park.

  • Practical needs: I always plan routes that consider real logistics — like where clients can change outfits, and how to navigate lighting conditions and nearby restrooms.

Final Thoughts on Olivia’s Senior Session

Olivia ended up with a gallery that exactly matched her personality: bold, editorial, and full of life. Her style came through in every frame, and Richmond TX provided the perfect mix of history, texture, and variety to make her session feel uniquely hers.
