If you’re looking for the perfect spot for couples beach photos near Houston or planning a romantic session away from the crowds, Surfside Beach is one of my absolute favorite locations.
It’s peaceful, scenic, and only about an hour from Sugar Land, making it an easy and accessible choice for couples in Fort Bend County and the surrounding areas who want dreamy coastal images without the traffic and congestion of Galveston or the Bolivar Peninsula.
This recent session with a sweet couple is the perfect example of everything I love about photographing at Surfside.
A Perfect Evening After the Rain
Earlier in the day it rained, but if you’ve ever done beach photography before, you know this is actually a blessing. Rain clears the air, softens the sky, and leaves us with those gorgeous pastel tones that make beach photos so magical.
By the time our session began, the clouds had lifted just enough to let the light come through in the softest shades of pink, lavender, and pale gold. It was one of those evenings where the beach looks like a watercolor painting.
She wore a simple white dress—classic, elegant, and perfect for the beach. White always photographs beautifully against the dunes and the shoreline, and it helped create those dreamy, airy coastal portraits that Surfside is known for.
Recreating Their Engagement Photo—With a Twist
One of the highlights of the session was recreating a photo from their engagement shoot: both of them jumping in the air, mid-laugh, with the ocean behind them.
It ended up being so much fun—and honestly even better than the original. Something about recreating old photos adds this whole extra layer of nostalgia and playfulness, and these two were fully in the moment. Their personalities absolutely shine in every frame.
