Vincent Turns One! A Fun Family & Cake Smash Session at Oyster Creek Park in Sugar Land

I had the absolute joy of capturing Vincent’s first birthday with a fun, laughter-filled family photo session and cake smash at Oyster Creek Park in Sugar Land, TX. His parents, Jennifer and Carlos, were not only incredibly sweet and loving with their son, but also so much fun to photograph—they even joined in on the cake smash celebration at the end!

From the moment they arrived (after driving nearly an hour from the northeast side of Houston!), I could tell this session was going to be something special. Despite it being close to Vincent’s bedtime, he was an absolute champ—all smiles, curious glances, and playful energy. His little expressions and happy squeals made every frame a treasure.

Even though Oyster Creek Park was bustling with other photographers that evening—especially around the pond—we explored some of my favorite, more wild and natural corners of the park, away from the crowds. These spots always give the most beautiful backlit golden hour light, and they didn’t disappoint! We created a variety of gorgeous images: candid moments full of joy, picnic-style family shots, and tender portraits that showed just how close this trio is.

We also made time for those extra-special one-on-one moments: mom and baby snuggles, playful dad and son interactions, and the classic “birthday boy covered in frosting” shot. But one of my favorite parts? Watching Jennifer and Carlos jump in on the cake smash fun themselves! They were laughing, kissing their frosting-covered baby, and completely in the moment. It was the kind of love and silliness that makes these sessions unforgettable.

Jennifer, a stay-at-home mom and a photography enthusiast herself, brought such great energy and an eye for detail to the session. She knew exactly the vibe she wanted—warm, candid, joyful—and it made my job that much more rewarding. I’m so thrilled with how the gallery turned out, and even more excited to share these moments with a family who clearly adores one another.
