If you’re expecting a baby in Houston, Sugar Land, Katy, Richmond, or Sienna, chances are you’ve started looking for a newborn photographer—and maybe feeling a little overwhelmed by all the options.

Here’s the truth: not all newborn photographers are created equal. Style, safety, experience, and even personality make a huge difference in how your session goes—and how much you love your final images.

Here are 5 questions every parent should ask before booking a newborn photographer—especially in our vibrant local market where photographers range from hobbyists to high-end pros.

1. What’s Your Style—and Does It Match What I Want?

Are you drawn to light, natural, and organic photos? Or do you prefer more posed, studio setups with elaborate props? Do you want a mixture of both so you capture those tiny toes as well as snuggly family moments?

I love to provide a variety of posed and candid newborn photos. I specialize in a lifestyle approach that captures connection, emotion, and those fleeting newborn details—tiny fingers, sleepy yawns, and your awe-struck expressions as new parents. Every session will include several baby only poses with the colours and items you choose as well as lots of family shots.

Look through any photographer’s portfolio and ask: “Do I want my photos to look like this?”

2. What does a typical gallery look like?

Before you book, ask to see a full, recent client gallery—not just highlight reels on Instagram. A complete gallery gives you the best idea of what to expect from your own session in terms of variety, consistency, and quality.

There’s often a big difference in the range and depth of images delivered from a short mini session (think 15–30 minutes that some photographers provide) versus a full in-home lifestyle newborn session, which allows for natural pauses, feeding, soothing, and capturing more meaningful interactions.

In a full session, you can expect a well-rounded collection of sleepy baby details, family cuddles, candid in-between moments, and gentle parent portraits. A mini session might focus only on baby in one wrap or setting with fewer poses and fewer final images. If you're not sure, make sure you ask before you book. If your photographer has a blog, check out their latest blog posts for an idea of what a typical session looks like. This will also give you some insight into their most recent work since their style may have changed over the yeats.

Always ask: What does a typical gallery look like from the session I’m considering? It’s the best way to ensure your expectations line up with what a photographer actually delivers.

3. What’s Included in the Session Fee?

Photographers price their work differently—some include digital images, others offer print collections or albums. Make sure you know what you will receive at the end of your session and how much it will cost to purchase additional digital files beyond what is included in your session.

In my Sugar Land newborn packages, you’ll receive:

✅ A planning guide and consultation

✅ Access to carefully curated wraps and blankets

✅ A no time limit photo session in your home or my natural light studio depending on the option you choose

✅ A full gallery of hand-edited, high-resolution images

✅ the option (but no pressure) to purchase digital photos, prints and albums for keepsakes you’ll treasure

4. Can I See Client Reviews or Testimonials?

Word-of-mouth means everything, especially when you’re trusting someone with your newborn.

You can read real client feedback on website, google reviews and facebook page , where local families from Sugar Land, Sienna, Katy, Houston and Richmond have shared their experiences. Notice what types of words and phrases keep coming up and what your ideal newborn session looks like. Are you looking for a high energy hype woman or calm energy? These are things that you can't necessarily tell from looking at websites but often come across in testimonials.

5. Do You Offer Guidance (Because I Have No Idea What I’m Doing)?

The answer should be a big YES. And if it isn't you should probably run.

From outfit styling to feeding tips to what to expect day-of, I’m with you from start to finish. You’re not expected to show up knowing how to pose or prepare—I walk you through everything.

I also schedule a pre-shoot consultation call and provide my detailed Newborn Photography Guide so you know what to expect and are fully prepared. (Optional reading only! If you want to ignore it entirely, that is also totally fine. Some moms want all the advanced intel they can get; others just want to show up and let me take care of them.)

Final Thoughts

Choosing a newborn photographer is about more than just pretty photos. It’s about finding someone who gets it—who knows how to keep your baby safe, make you feel confident, and deliver images that tell your family’s story with warmth and heart.

Let’s create something beautiful—without the stress.
